In setting the distance between rear wheels, how far out can the wheel go? If taken out to the last of the three holes on one side of the axle, then the hub is out beyond the end of the axle by about an inch. There's a fourth hole through the axle at right angles to the other three, (on a different face of the hexagonal axle). It is about half way between the middle and outermost holes on the original face. My concern is that that third hole is out so far that the cotter bolt might not hold properly, or that the hub could be unable to bear the weight unless the axle goes all the way through it. Would appreciate advice on whether the last hole is safe.

The chassis of that tractor is used for cultivation in some areas. That is light work with little load on the rear axles. Depending on your uses, I like to see the reasonably close to the tractor to cut the stress on the axle. ....
